AUDIO JUNKIE: The cool sounds of summer 2021

Is the heat getting to you? How about this pandemic?

Well, you made it this far, might as well hold on and see it through.

In the meantime, don’t forget to find ways to entertain yourself and keep your mind off the heavy stuff.

And just in case the days and weeks (not to mention the past year) have blended unto one long continuous blur of days of being stuck at home, let us remind you that it is summer! Let the following new singles keep you even-keeled and cool.

Speaking of, Cup Of Joe is bringing a whole lot of cool with their new single titled “Bukod Tangi.”

The Baguio-based sextet which includes singers Edgar Gian Bernardino and Raphael Ridao guitarists Gab and CJ Fernandez, bassist “Seve” Severino and keyboardist Xen Gareza, lays down a jazzy, new wave-flavored sound on their new single that reminds us somewhat of Truefaith.

Which is to say that Cup Of Joe is as melodic and as infectious as the beloved veteran act.

Cup Of Joe or the “Joewahs” has got youth going for them though, and so far with just a couple of singles to their name all original and as ear-tweaking mind you, Cup Of Joe is a band that is filled to the brim with promise.

A group to keep an eye and ear out for definitely.

Do check out their previous single “Hayaan,” while you’re at it. And in the meantime, check out this sample lyric: “Muling nakita liwanag mong kakaiba / lahat ng bigat ng kahapon ay nawala / kung ikaw ay nangangamba  dahil ‘di ka katulad nila / wag matakot tumaliwas / ipakita kung sino ka / nag-iisa, wala nang iba.”

A salve for these trying times for sure.

Young Hiphop artist Jae K’s got a lot riding on his back.

As the first solo artist of newly formed music label WAYBETTR, the pressure is on to deliver on his first try. Good thing that his debut single titled “Please You” sounds on track to score.

Arpeggiated synth chords, mid tempo trap beats open this brooding Hiphop track.

Jae K talks about “diving into love, lust and affection for someone regardless of the consequences” reads his track PR.

Sounds about right.

A couple of weeks ago we wrote about a pair of songs titled “Paraluman.” We thought we’d add another like-titled song “Paraluman” here. This time from OC Records singer-songwriter Adie.

The mention here is much deserved as his take on the eternal muse is as every bit as compelling. Alt-rock vibes, fluttering falsettos, lullabye-pianos and tasty acoustic guitar work are the order of the day for Adie.

Rising alt-rock and pop band Sleep Alley returns with their much anticipated new single titled “Pag-Uwi.”

2021 finds Sleep Alley revitalized what with a revamp lineup that sees the addition of new vocalist Catherine Sale, who joins the band pillars Jude Daluz, Alyssa Pagaduan and Kyle Tesalona.

Sleep Alley sounds energized on their new single; a driving tune marked by memorable acoustic motifs and deep grooved rhythms.

Here, Sleep Alley manages to get hold of their own distinct sound and at the same time deliver a pretty and exciting alt-pop song about longing for love.

Coming in with his own brand of mellow is young rapper-singer songwriter Raven. The 21-year old did very well on his debut track from just a month or so ago. A quick follow-up to it is this pretty sounding number titled “Kung Tayo, Tayo.”

Just from the title alone, the song excretes ‘hugot’ vibes. Thankfully, Raven leaves the mush and lays down a tuneful new song that is equal parts alt-pop vibes and love song.
