'Ayuda' beneficiary in Navotas earns praise for honesty

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco has lauded the honesty of a resident who said she should no longer be included in the list of cash assistance beneficiaries as she was already removed from the list about two years already.

In a Facebook message posted on Tiangco's Facebook page, a certain Joann Roldan told the mayor that the money allotted for her should just be given "to those who are more deserving."

She said her conscience could not bear the idea of getting the money as she was no longer a 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) member.

"Magandang gabi po, Mayor Toby. Ako po si Joann dela Cruz Roldan na tiga San Rafael Village. Nasa list po kasi ang name ko na makakatanggap ng 4Ps bukas (Good evening, Mayor Toby. I am Joann dela Cruz Roldan from San Rafael Village. My name is included in the list of 4Ps members who are about to receive assistance tomorrow)," Roldan told Tiangco in a Facebook message.

"Matagal na po akong hindi member ng 4Ps halos two years na po. Nakokonsensya naman po kung kukunin ko pa yun. Salamat nalang po ng marami. Ibigay nalang sana sa mas karapat-dapat (I am no longer a member of the 4Ps program for two years already. My conscience can't take it if I still get the aid. But thank you very much for that. Just please give it to those who are more deserving)," she added.

Roldan's message, according to Tiangco, brought him "happiness."

He also thanked Roldan for her honesty and said that her deed might serve as an example to her fellow Navotas residents amid the ongoing crisis.

"Dahil higit sa anumang panahon, ngayon natin kailangan magtulungan at magdamayan, at itanim ang pundasyon ng pag-alala sa kapwa sa bagong henerasyon (More than any other time, it is today that we need to help each other and teach the future generation of considering others)," Tiangco said.
