In comparison, OCTA said the COVID-19 fatality rate in October 2020 was at 1.8 percent.

"This means a higher percentage of people are dying due to COVID-19," it said in its report.

Of the 100,250 active COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, OCTA said that "2,091 of these cases will result in mortality, with 1,020 deaths for ages 64 and below," based on the current case fatality rate.

OCTA also noted that more young and elderly people are getting infected with COVID-19, as observed after the first week of enhanced community quarantine.

"The average growth rate at that time was 20 percent, but the 65 and up age group increased by 35 percent, while the zero to 17 age group increased by 28 percent," it said.

Meanwhile, OCTA reported that the reproduction number for COVID-19 in Metro Manila has declined to 1.24 on April 4-10.

The average number of new COVID-19 cases reported per day in Metro Manila was 4,676--15 percent lower compared to the previous week, it said.

However, OCTA noted that it is still premature to say that the new recorded COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila are already on a downward trend.
