Aurora Pijuan, the country's second Miss International, has compared other new international pageants to COVID-19 variants saying she was surprised there were many international beauty contests.
"I didn't know there are so many new international beauty pageants! Parang Covid variants," said Aurora on Twitter April 10.
Now 71, Aurora is currently an active member of the Gawad Kalinga movement in the rural areas of the country.
On May 16, 1970, Aurora won Miss International in Osaka, Japan. In 2019, Aurora planned to auction her MIkimoto tiara for a good cause. The crown had an initial bid of P60,000.
The former beauty queen said that she hoped to use the money in helping the Filipino fishermen who figured in an incident with China in disputed waters.
But later, Aurora decided to withdraw the crown from the auction citing personal reasons.
