25 passengers rescued in Leyte sea mishap


TACLOBAN CITY - Twenty-five passengers, including a 4-year-old girl, were rescued when a motorized banca capsized after being dragged by another boat along the seawater of Capoocan, Leyte Tuesday (March 30).
 
Reports disclosed that at around 7:00 P.M., the local police received a phone call from Cabucgayan, Biliran police informing that a motorized banca capsized in their area.
 
Initial investigation revealed that three motorized banca were navigating from an island in Capoocan going home to Cabucgayan after having a birthday celebration.
 
One of the motorized bancas owned by Renato Makirang with more or less 14 passengers was dragged by the other motorized banca skippered by Bertram Enriquez due to engine malfunction.
 
The dragged motorized banca accidentally capsized due to huge waves. 
 
All the passengers, including 10 minors were rescued. They were brought to the Rural Health Unit of Cabucgayan, Biliran for assessment.
 
No casualty was reported during the incident.
