3 weather systems affecting PH -- PAGASA

Rains may still affect some parts of the Philippines in the next 24 hours due to three weather systems prevailing across the archipelago on Monday, March 15.

In its 11 a.m. weather advisory issued on March 15, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the low pressure area (LPA) at 105 kilometers (km) west-northwest of Cuyo, Palawan or 90 km south of Coron, Palawan around 10 a.m.

PAGASA said the LPA will likely to continue to move west-northwest and exit the country's area of responsibility or dissipate in the next 48 hours.

Weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz said the LPA remains less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 to 36 hours.

Meanwhile, the tail-end of frontal system or "shear line," which is the boundary between the warm easterly winds and cold northeast monsoon, continued to affect the eastern section of Southern Luzon.

PAGASA said the LPA and tail-end of frontal system will bring moderate to heavy rains over Quezon and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over northern Palawan, Camarines Norte, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Aurora, and the eastern section of Isabela.

"Flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards or in localities that received significant amount of rainfall during the past couple of days or weeks," PAGASA warned.

"Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels," it added.

In the next 24 hours, the northeast monsoon or "amihan" may also bring light rains over Batanes, Cagayan, the rest of Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya, and isolated light rains over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

PAGASA said Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

It also advised the public against possible floods or landslides during severe thunderstorm activity.
