More areas under lockdown in QC


More areas in Quezon City have been placed under lockdown as the local government tightened its efforts to arrest the “alarming” increase in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city.

The local government on Friday said the number of areas under special concern lockdown (SCL) already rose to 17, from 12 three days ago.

These new areas are:

  • Christ the King Mission Seminary, No. 101 E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave. in Barangay Kristong Hari (starting March 12)
  • No. 77 to Block 2 Lot 7 Orchids St., Freedom Park 3 in Barangay Batasan Hills (starting March 11)
  • No. 26 Mabituan St., Barangay Masambong (starting March 11)
  • The other areas under SCL are:
  • De Los Santos Compound, Heavenly Drive, Barangay San Agustin (starting March 1)
  • No. 46 and 50 K-9th Street, Barangay West Kamias (started March 3)
  • 49 & 51 E Rodriguez Sr. Ave., Barangay Doña Josefa (started March 4)
  • Paul Street and Thaddeus Street, Jordan Park Homes Subdivision, Doña Carmen, Barangay Commonwealth (started March 4)
  • No. 237 Apo Street, Barangay Maharlika (started March 4)
  • No. 64 14th Avenue, Barangay Socorro (started March 6)
  • No. 64-B Agno Extension, Barangay Tatalon (started March 7)
  • No. 90 Gonzales Compound, Barangay Balon Bato (started March 8)
  • No. 2A – 4 K-6th, Barangay West Kamias (started March 8)
  • Portion of Sitio 5, Jose Abad Santos, Barangay Sta. Lucia (started March 9)
  • No. 138 -178 Orchids Street and No. 153-165 Jasmin Street, Barangay Central (started March 10)
  • No. 43 Salvador St., Barangay Krus Na Ligas (started March 10)
  • No. 86 C. Benitez St. in Barangay San Martin de Porres (started March 10)
  • A portion of Ramon Compound in Barangay Unang Sigaw (started March 10)

For 14 days, residents in the area will not be allowed to go out. Their provisions are being supplied by city personnel.

The local government said a total of 603 families and 64 individuals, composed of 30 senior citizens and 34 employees, are affected.

Mayor Joy Belmonte, in a recent online press conference, said the city’s COVID-19 situation is already alarming.

“Yes, it’s a serious increase. Yes, we should be alarmed. Yes, we should be disturbed,” she added.

COVID-19 cases

Data from the city’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) showed that the city has 2,639 active COVID-19 cases as of Friday.

Hills and Commonwealth are the barangays with the highest COVID-19 infection at 99 active cases. They are followed by Pasong Tamo at 86, and Matandang Balara at 59.

Meanwhile, 860 individuals have succumbed to the disease while 31,825 have recovered.
