Chris Evans, Smart’s newest brand ambassador, confirms he’s on Twitter but not on Facebook

During the press conference made exclusive for the Philippine news media and bloggers, Hollywood superstar and Smart’s newest brand ambassador, Chris Evans confirms his presence on Twitter and Instagram but not on Facebook.

“I’m not a huge fan of social media apps in general. And I’m only on Twitter and Instagram. I am not on Facebook although I think there’s a Facebook page for me (I have nothing to do with it). I mean I am new to Instagram and I suppose I use Twitter the most,” said the Captain America actor as he answered questions from the press.

Chris was recently unveiled as the face of Smart Communications’ “Live Smarter for a Better World” 2021 campaign.

The surprise coup was retweeted by Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan on his own official account, Thursday, March 4, 2021. Viewers were in for a treat as Chris ended the two-minute commercial film declaring “Simple, Smart Ako!”

As Smart’s first ever Hollywood A-List brand ambassador, Chris appears in a world-class commercial helmed by Pascal Heiduk. The German-born director has worked with the likes of Hugh Jackman and Lewis Hamilton and has done commercial film work for renowned brands such as BMW, Montblanc, and Mercedes Benz AMG.

Through its “Live Smarter for a Better World” campaign, Smart intends to inspire people to commit to sustainable actions with lasting, positive impact to society. The brand encourages everyone to ignite their passions to help change the world for the better.

Over the years, Smart has been known to support and promote various causes, including gaining a strong foothold in innovation, sustainability, and nation-building.

Smart has also been empowering the Filipino people with simple and easy access to cutting-edge technology.

“There’s nothing like the current challenges the world is facing to make us all realize that we are all interconnected, and that our personal actions have broader impact. Through our “Live Smarter for a Better World” initiative, it is our aim to create that spark in everyone to help change the world for the better rather than just settling for ‘good’,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, Smart Communications’ president and CEO.

Almost two years since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, Chris remains as one of the world’s most popular and well-loved among Hollywood actors.

He is the star of the blockbuster Captain America films, which have catapulted to enormous success in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: End Game remains the highest grossing film of all time and among the superhero franchises – earning over U$ 2.79 billion at the worldwide box office.

Last year Chris launched A Starting Point, a civic engagement platform where he interviews various US politicians and stakeholders in minute long videos to discuss American policies and newsworthy topics.

“A Starting Point was born out of recognizing that we were living in this proliferation of misinformation – that it’s really hard to have a political discussion with people because most people come into the table with their own set of facts and information. So, it felt like the most intuitive way to rage against that would be getting the information from elected officials directly from themselves to the electorate, so we have at least an understanding of who the people in office are and what they believe in,” Chris shared the inspiration behind the platform.

“Well, I’ve always liked the idea of working with a company in the Philippines. It’s a great part of the world and Smart felt like a very forward-thinking company, so it felt like a good fit. I’ve heard great things (about the Philippines). Great beaches! I’ve heard that today. I heard great food. Wonderful people. I mean every time I am in any sort of Asian territory it’s always hard to leave because it is incredibly welcoming and aesthetically beautiful, so I am eager to visit,” he later answered why he accepted the collaboration and partnership for the “Live Smarter for a Better World” campaign with the telecommunications and digital services provider in the country. He also mentioned that he loves to come to the Philippines as he heard many great things about the country.

The world-class commercial was shot in East Coast USA with a Hollywood crew and along the video, a montage of iconic Philippine culture, wildlife, and landscapes can be seen starting at 0:48 minute mark. The video already has 87,000 likes and 18,000 shares as of this writing.

“From the first moment I saw the script I was fascinated by the strong statement SMART wanted to make to really empower people to do good things and I think that’s exactly what we need in these extreme times and it’s a message I can get behind as a director 100%. So the idea is to go on a journey with Chris Evans from stunning nature to a room filled with screens visualizing various inspirations as we’re listening to his thoughts and ideas. So, we were facing a lot of challenges in pre-production because having a world-class actor like Chris Evans as an ambassador requires an extremely safe shooting environment. So we had to shoot all his parts in a studio even those where he stands outside (in a cliff) looking at the ocean and usually what is done is that we will shoot those scenes in front of a green screen and post on the environment later.

"But we wanted Chris to really feel the environment and be part of it during the shoot already. So, we used the same technique they used for the Mandalorian where the environment is shown on gigantic LED screens that we had in the studio so the actor can have a real interaction. It is a fascinating high-res technology where the camera is not able to distinguish between reality and the screen anymore. So, these computer-generated images the results are really stunning and it’s fun to watch. So, it was really a great experience for me to work with a company that sets a great example in these times not only with the audience but also themselves: Should we do good, or should we do better? So, I hope you enjoy this inspiring campaign and see you all soon,” said Heiduk about the technology used in shooting the video.
