The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has called on the government and the private sector “to respect and protect” the rights of women and persons with diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE).
In a statement last Saturday night, March 6, the CHR said that women and the SOGIEs remain the vulnerable sectors in society.
The CHR is urging those in government, civil society, and organized groups to be at the forefront in respecting, protecting, and pushing for the human rights of all,” it stated.
The CHR pointed that “ang mga kababaihan at persons of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE) sa maituturing na vulnerable sectors (women and SOGIE are considered vulnerable sectors).”
“Ngunit lantaran pa rin ang pang-babastos at karahasan na kanilang kinakaharap (They remain the subjects of outright disrespect and violence),” it stressed.
There are still many people who air insensitive statements against their gender),” it added.
It pointed out that it does not help when people allow “rape jokes,” victim shaming or sexist attitudes.
This kind of attitude gives way for others to do all kinds of disrespectful acts against their honor and dignity),” it lamented.
