Is Smart bringing in one of the Avengers as its brand-new ambassador?

Smart Communications’ latest tweet is sending frenzy all over the internet with a short video teasing a brand-new ambassador heading our way. The teaser video shows of a man standing on top of the edge of a cliff watching peacefully the horizon. It’s only the silhouette back of the man that can be seen on the video and the netizens can’t help but guess the Hollywood celebrity’s name behind that short clip.

You’ve read that right. The news circulating online is that the Manny Pangilinan-owned company just signed a Hollywood A-lister as the telco’s newest face. This surprising news ramps up Smart’s 5G network campaign as it just signed up big names such as reel-to-real life K-drama couple Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, and K-pop boy band BTS.

According to the buzz, the Hollywood A-Lister will be appearing in a world-class commercial helmed by an internationally acclaimed director who has done commercial work for renowned brands such as BMW, Montblanc, and Mercedes Benz AMG.

Netizens are already speculating the identity of the Hollywood A-Lister given the other info relayed that this person was the “lead star of the highest-grossing film of all time.” The celebrity also appears in a film franchise that grossed more than $10 billion worldwide.

If we’re going to look at the numbers, there are only two Hollywood A-Listers that will come to mind who have starred on a “highest-grossing film of all time.” The film franchise that grossed more than $10 billion worldwide in our time is none other than Marvel Studios’ Avengers franchise that tied with Iron Man, starring Robert Downey, Jr., and Captain America, headlined by Chris Evans, who both made three movie installments, respectively.

Let’s do the math!

Here are the latest box office reports that are available online for these film franchises:

Avengers
$2.798 billion (Avengers: Endgame); $2.048 billion (Avengers: Infinity War); $1.403 billion (Avengers: Age of Ultron); $1.519 billion (The Avengers) = $7.768 billion.

Iron Man
$585.3 million (Iron Man); $623.9 million (Iron Man 2); $1.215 billion (Iron Man 3) = $2.424 billion

Captain America
$370.6 million (Captain America: The First Avenger); $714.4 million (Captain America: The Winter Soldier); $1.153 billion (Captain America: Civil War) = $2.238 billion.

If we compute for the total box office sales of the Avengers franchise and the two movies, we’ll arrive on these answers:

Avengers + Iron Man = $10.192 billion
Avengers + Captain America = $10.006 billion

See where we’re getting at? On top of that, there’s already a giveaway or Easter egg from the short video’s caption, and it goes something like this:

“If the world gave you a second chance, what would you do? Should we do good? Or should we do better?”

Without bias, the only person I think who’ll fit on that caption would be RDJ. The Iron Man and the Avengers franchise saved Downey’s career. Everybody knows that. Iron Man brought Downey back and became the movie star he once looked destined to be. In short, he was given a second chance and he successfully overcome past challenges both from his personal and work lives. Downey is now one of the highest-paid actors on the planet. That’s how he got better.

But it’s just me. It could be Cap!

Better is coming.
