The Diocese of Maasin in Southern Leyte is asking the help of the faithful for the construction of a pilgrimage site in the historic island of Limasawa.
Maasin Bishop Prescioso Cantillas has appealed for contributions for the said project.
“I invite you to give thanks to God for the gift of faith we all have received by donating an amount or construction materials,” the prelate said in a report from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website.
The construction of the seven-storey complex monument began in February last year and is "being built by the Maasin diocese in the island’s Magallanes village," the CBCP news said.
The complex will be called the “Shrine and Pilgrim Center with a Tower of Light.”
"The initiative is one of the diocese’s main projects for the year-long celebration of the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines," the CBCP said.
"The target is to finish the project before the local celebration ends in March 2022," it added.
To note, the first Catholic mass in the country was held in Limasawa in 1521.
