The Diocese of Cubao has offered its big parishes to serve as vaccination sites for Quezon City’s coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine rollout, the local government on Saturday said.
According to its Vicar General Fr. Steve Zabala, the Diocese has so far identified three big parishes that have already met the conditions set by the city's Health Department. These are the Our Lady of Pentecost Parish, the Santa Maria Dela Strada Parish, and the Cathedral of Cubao.
"Based on our meeting with the QC Health, the parishes should have a good wifi connection and good ventilation to be qualified as inoculation sites," Fr. Zabala said.
Zabala added that the vaccination will be held at the parish halls and at their gardens and not inside the church.
Mayor Joy Belmonte expressed her gratitude to Bishop Honesto Ongtioco "for opening their churches in support of the city’s vaccination plan," as it will also add to the 24 already identified vaccination sites in the city.
Recently, the Diocese of Novaliches, led by Bishop Most Rev. Fr. Roberto Gaa, also offered its parishes to serve as inoculation sites.
"It will be a great help to the city once the vaccines arrive,” Belmonte said in a statement.
Currently, the local government is also finalizing its talks with the Ateneo de Manila University through its President, Fr. Bobby Yap, after it expressed willingness to have their facilities used as a vaccination site.
"We welcome these help coming from our churches, schools, and even the private sector. They have been the city's force multiplier even from the start of our battle against COVID-19," Belmonte said.
