Emma Stone is Cruella De Vil.
Disney recently revealed the first teaser for a new live-action adaptation and continuation of the classic 101 Dalmatians story via the prequel film entitled “Cruella.” And playing the lead role as a young version of the iconic Disney villain is Emma Stone.
The story follows the rise of a young Estella who arrives in 70’s era London, who is determined to make a name for herself in the world of fashion. Quoting from the film’s synopsis, it goes on to say that Estella’s “flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman (played by Emma Thompson), a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute. Their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.”
In the teaser, Stone strikes an imposing figure as Cruella--first as red-haired Estella, and then eventually as the intense and certifiably mad designer with a two-toned hairstyle and a predilection for Dalmatian-spots-as-fashion-statement.
The cast will also include Mark Strong, Joel Fry, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Paul Walter-Hauser, Jamie Demetriou and is directed by Craig Gillespie.
The film is set for release in May 28, 2021 but whether it will be released theatrically or on the Disney + streaming service is yet to be determined.
