The Task Force Against Corruption (TFAC) will get rid of politically motivated complaints among the reports it has been receiving, assured Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Saturday, Jan. 23.

Guevarra made the assurance as he expects the number of complaints that the DOJ-led TFAC will receive “to rise as we draw closer to the next elections.”

“There may be a rash of politically motivated complaints alleging corruption by contending elective officials as elections draw near,” the secretary said.

“We will have to evaluate each complaint on the basis of adequate evidence submitted to support general allegations,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Guevarra said “the TFAC is quietly conducting its investigations.”

Just last week, Guevarra said the TFAC has already received a total of 144 complaints concerning anomalies in government agencies.

Among them, the TFAC has already evaluated 60 complaints mostly involving anomalies in public works projects in regions.

At the moment, the secretary said the TFAC is currently investigating four cases including alleged massive corruption at the first district engineering office in Northern Samar; alleged ghost deliveries of rice and fuel in Capalonga, Camarines Norte; alleged anomalous procurement of heavy equipment and illegal disbursement of Bayanihan funds in Cateel, Davao Oriental; and alleged irregular bidding, bribery, and extortion at the third district engineering office in Cagayan.
