“The swift action of the Internal Affairs Service of the Philippine National Police on the administrative case of Master Sergeant Nuezca by recommending his dismissal from the service for shooting his neighbors Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio is welcome and commendable,” said IBP President Domingo Egon Cayosa said in a statement.

Cayosa made the statement after Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas announced the dismissal of Nuesca for the killing of Sonya, 53, and her son Frank, 25, in their neighborhood in Paniqui, Tarlac last Dec. 21.

“’Justice bilis’ (fast justice) and making the malefactor accountable after due process is the more effective deterrence to crime and misconduct,” he pointed out.

“It also helps restore the trust of the citizens in our police force and in our justice system,” he added.

Aside from this case, Cayosa also urged the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) to also promptly act on other still pending cases.

Meanwhile, Nuezca is facing two counts of murder before the Paniqui Regional Trial Court (RTC) over the shooting incident.

The case caught public attention after the incident was caught on video and became viral online.

“We also look forward to the timely resolution of the criminal case pending before the Regional Trial Court,” Cayosa stated.

“More than the severity of the penalty, certainty and promptness of punishment are tested antidotes to criminality,” he pointed out.
