2 LPAs induce scattered rains in Luzon

The low pressure area (LPA) east of the country may continue to bring scattered rains over Northern Luzon and some parts of Central and Southern Luzon, while gradual improvement in weather condition is expected in other areas on Monday.

Weather specialist Chris Perez said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the low pressure areas (LPAs) at 355 kilometers (km) west of Cuyo, Palawan and 80 km east of Infanta, Quezon around 4 p.m. Sunday.

The combined effects of the northeast monsoon or "amihan" prevailing over Northern Luzon and the two LPAs may continue to bring scattered to widespread rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Rizal, and Quezon until Sunday evening, Perez said.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar may have cloudy skies with scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains and some isolated thunderstorms, he added.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have generally fair weather apart from isolated thunderstorms.

By Monday, Perez said the LPA east of Luzon may continue to bring cloudy skies and scattered rains over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, and Quezon.

Kalayaan Island will also have cloudy skies, some rains, and isolated thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Perez said the LPA west of the country is anticipated to exit the Philippine area of responsibility.

The weather in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will improve gradually by Monday, he pointed out, while Visayas and Mindanao will have warm and humid weather conditions, apart from some isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.

Perez said the LPA east of the country will likely dissipate within the next 36 to 48 hours.

He also noted that a fresh surge of the amihan may bring some light rains over Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon by Wednesday.

A gale warning was in effect on Sunday as strong to gale force winds associated with the northeast monsoon and LPA east of Luzon may affect several Luzon coasts.

Rough to very rough seas may prevail over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, particularly Batanes, Cagayan Including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Aurora, northern Quezon, including northern Polillo Island, and the northern and eastern coasts of Catanduanes.
