DoH logs 10 fireworks-related injuries


Ten cases of fireworks-related injuries have so far been recorded nationwide since Dec. 21, the Department of Health (DoH) reported Saturday.

The DoH said that six cases sustained blast and burn injuries that did not require amputation while the other four were eye injuries. 

"Nine cases (90 percent) were sent home after treatment. One case was admitted," the DoH said.

“This is 15 cases (60 percent) lower compared to 2019 and 49 cases lower (83 percent) lower versus the five-year average (2015 to 2019) same time period,” it added.

All cases were males aged 10 to 43-years-old, the DoH said. 

Two each were reported from Bicol region and Metro Manila and one case each from Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Davao Region, and Socsargen.

Firecrackers that caused the injuries were “five star” (four cases), “baby rocket” (one), “boga” (one), “bong-bong” (one), “fountain” (one), “rebentador” (one), and "whistle" (one).  

“No firework ingestion and stray bullet cases (were) reported,” the DoH said.
