Several parts of the country may experience rains in the next 24 hours due to the combined effects of two low-pressure areas (LPAs) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) monitored the two LPAs at 50 kilometers east-southeast of Zamboanga City and 315 kms east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar before noon Saturday.
Both LPAs are less likely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours but PAGASA said it will continue to monitor these weather disturbances should there be a change in forecast.
The combined effects of the LPAs are anticipated to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Romblon, Palawan, including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Sulu archipelago within Saturday, according to PAGASA.
The rest of Visayas and Mindanao may also experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
By Sunday, the combined effects of these weather disturbances may continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over Aurora, Quezon, including Polillo Islands, and Bicol region.
Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Eastern Visayas.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides that may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.
Other areas that received significant antecedent rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks were also advised to take precautionary measures in case flooding or landslides occur due to these weather disturbances.
Likewise, adjacent or nearby areas that may not have been directly affected by the rainfall were urged to remain alert due to the possibility of flooding from surface runoff or swelling of river channels.
The northeast monsoon or "amihan" is also prevailing over Northern Luozon.
Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region may experience cloudy skies with light rains, while Ilocos region and Central Luzon may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA also advised those in these areas to take necessary precaution against possible flash floods or landslides in the event of severe thunderstorm activity.
