Teenager reviews sugary drink on TikTok and quickly realizes she has COVID-19

Enamored by a TikTok trend with a particularly new drink, 19-year-old Maryn Aleece ordered a venti iced coffee with whipped cream, light ice, five pumps of vanilla syrup, splash of heavy cream, three pumps of caramel syrup, and caramel drizzle from Starbucks.

That’s actually a lot of syrup, if you ask us. But the moment the young content creator was going to sample the drink on her TikTok, she found it unusual to taste nothing.

“It's dark. I don't want to draw attention to myself and turn on my car light because there's people around,” the California teenager said during the start of her review. “I’m going to try this. This has no flavor. Why can't I taste it? Do I have COVID? Hang on! I can't taste anything. Oh my god!”

In her video, she did a screen caption stating she woke up that day with a stuffy nose but shrugged it off as normal allergies. (For COVID-19 symptoms and difference between flu, colds, and allergies, click this link.)

The following day, Maryn Aleece did another video just to test her taste buds and revealed "faint taste" to the breakfast dish. She ate a healthy protein-based pizza from Quest Nutrition, a food brand known for complete protein products with minimal carbohydrates and sugar. Watch her reaction here:

Her following posts revealed she tested positive for COVID-19. First video was a rapid test reveal on Dec. 2, 2020, and then followed by a PCR swab test from her local CVS Pharmacy clinic video posted on Dec. 4, 2020. For her final results, watch the video here:
