CEBU CITY—A policeman was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding assailants on Wednesday night in Cordova town off Mactan Island, Cebu.
Police M/Sgt. Elizar Llanes, 42, died on the spot with multiple gunshot wounds.
Llanes, who was the chief investigator of the Cordova Police Station, was driving a motorcycle in Sitio Calan II, Barangay Poblacion when he was attacked at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday
Police Capt. Al-Nico Hama, chief of the Cordova police, said Llanes was on-duty during the attack but went out for a while for dinner.
At least 15 empty shells of an undetermined firearm were recovered from the crime scene.
The assailants wore full-face helmets, Hama said.
The victim was a Drug Enforcement Group operative.
“We are still investigating to determine the motive. We will check if the motive had something to do with his job,” said Hama.
