Praise the vegan gods as fast food chain Burger King brings to the Philippines its Plant-Based Whopper.
This newest product of Burger King is made from plants but definitely tastes like beef. In partnership with Australia’s number one plant-based company V2Food, the meatless burger is made mostly of soy proteins. It is flame-grilled, and coupled with the brand's signature burger components of buns, cheese, mayo, tomato, and greens.
It has been a long journey for fast food restaurants to keep their operations, services, and meals as sustainable as possible. And as quick as they serve and provide, their solutions to our world's needs are also in lightning speed, from eco-friendly dinnerware to bringing nutrient-packed food products to the table.
“What we are offering our customers is an option," says marketing director for Burger King Philippines Allan Tan. "Filipinos are such huge meat-eaters, and the insight for this local roll-out is to provide them with an affordable alternative, to reduce meat intake with an equally satisfying product. We’ve seen more developed markets making the shift earlier on, and locally, we see the Plant-Based Whopper as a game-changer, a revolutionary product. We wanted to be at the forefront of that shift here."

According to Pigging Out On Sundays Facebook page, "There is no middle ground in this one. Either you like it or you hate it. Personally, I actually loved that it looked, smelled, and tasted like my fave Whopper."

Facebook user Cam Lucero tells, "It was my first meal of the day. No words for this burger. If you enjoy eating actual beef burgers, you'll enjoy eating this one."
Foodie, MD Facebook page's verdict is, "Surprisingly meaty and juicy on every bite. Gone in 30 sec. doesn't taste like veggies. It has a smokey grill flavor to it but not meaty enough compared to the real thing. Nonetheless, tastes a lot like a healthier burger. Will definitely buy again!"
