2 LPAs, ‘habagat’ to bring scattered rain showers

Two low pressure areas (LPAs) and the southwest monsoon or "habagat" will bring scattered rain showers over most of the country within 24 hours.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin on Saturday, Sept. 26, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the locations of the LPAs at 490 kilometers (km) east of Tuguegarao City, and 770 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also affect Surigao del Sur, South Cotabato, Cotabato City, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Davao Occidental due to an LPA.

The "habagat" and localized thunderstorms may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Sudden heavy rains due to severe thunderstorms may cause flooding or landslides over flood-prone or landslide-prone areas.

PAGASA advised the public to take extra precaution in case of heavy rainfall that may occur in the afternoon or evening.

Moderate sea condition will prevail over the coasts of extreme Northern Luzon, while slight to moderate seas will persist over the seaboards of the rest of the country.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning on Saturday but fisherfolk and those using small boats were still advised to take precaution when venturing out to sea.
