PNP records 16th COVID fatality


A 52-year-old civilian employee of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was the 16th coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fatality in the police organization.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said the latest fatality was Patient 2982 and was assigned to the Police National Training Institute-National Training Center. He died on August 17.

The death of another PNP personnel came as the number of infected policemen continues to increase based on the data of the police’s Health Service.

As of Sunday night, a total of 3,380 PNP personnel were infected with 104 more who tested positive for COVID-19, mostly from Metro Manila.

Banac said they continue to monitor the infection among PNP personnel, especially those assigned to do frontline duties.

A total of 2,688 PNP personnel are classified as suspected cases of COVID-19 while a total of 711 are considered probable cases.
