A priest from the Diocese of Legazpi in Bicol has been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive.
The diocese identified the priest as Father Antonio B. Peralta, the vice-rector of Mater Salutis College Seminary.
"This is to inform our faithful and the general public that Rev. Fr. Antonio B. Peralta is diagnosed as COVID-19 positive. He is identified as Bicol Patient #776, 64 years-old, Filipino male, priest, from Sipi, Daraga, Albay," read part of the public statement released Friday as signed by Rev. Fr. Rex Paul Arjona, diocese spokesperson.
"The diocese is making this public announcement, with permission from Father Peralta and in close coordination with local health authorities, to help with contact tracing," it further read.
According to Arjona, Peralta exhibited slight fever last August 7. Subsequently, he also lost his sense of taste and smell.
The priest underwent swab testing a few days later on August 10.
He is currently under quarantine.
Arjona asked the public to pray for Peralta and other COVID-19 patients.
"Support our frontliners and authorities, and religiously observe prescribed health standards," he added.
