Sunday’s weather: Scattered rain showers, thunderstorms over S. Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao on Sunday due to the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay may experience scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains during thunderstorms.

The ITCZ and localized thunderstorms may also prevail across Metro Manila and the rest of the country. These areas will continue to experience warm weather from morning until noon, with chances of rain showers in the afternoon or evening.

ITCZ is the region near the equator where winds from various directions converge, which is usually a breeding ground for localized thunderstorms, and sometimes potential low pressure area.

Areas that are highly susceptible to flash floods or landslides may have to take extra precautions in the event of severe thunderstorms that usually occur in the afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, no gale warning has been raised in any part of the country on Saturday afternoon.

Slight to moderate seas will prevail over the coasts of Luzon, while slight seas will persist across the seas of Visayas and Mindanao.

However, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk using small boats to remain alert during severe thunderstorms as sea condition may become rough.
