3 detainees at Pasay police detention cell die of heat stroke due to congestion

Three detainees from the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) died after they were found unconscious inside a congested detention cell in Pasay City Thursday night.

The victims were identified as Noel Albetia, 36; Edwin Moreno, 25; and Felix Yusores, 33. All three of them were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Investigation showed at around 8:35 in the evening, PO3 Angelita Aguila, the SDET Duty Jailer, requested the Pasay City Rescue Team to attend to the three unconscious detainees inside the detention cell.

Immediately, the Pasay Rescue Team arrived and applied necessary measures to the detainees. They then rushed the three to the Pasay City General Hospital for treatment but was declared dead on arrival.

According to Pasay City Police Chief Senior Supt. Noel Flores, the detention call only accommodate up to 30 detainees, 25 of which are male while the remaining five are for female.

During the incident, the detention cell contained a total of 84 detainees. Because of this, 32 of them were moved to the different precincts in Pasay City to ease the congestion inside the detention cell.

The Pasay City Police also requested a medical team from the hospital to diagnose and monitor the other SDET trainees.
