4.4 magnitude quake jolts ComVal province

BUTUAN CITY -- A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Compostela Valley (ComVal) province early Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was recorded at 5:44 a.m.

The epicenter was plotted only 6 kilometers (km) away northeast of Pantukan town, ComVal province, it said.

The tremor had a depth of 26 km, the agency said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershock was raised by the state agency.

The Pantukan and ComVal disaster risk reduction and management councils there reported no damage or injury.

On Tuesday, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was also registered at 2:26 p.m. and its epicenter was traced 64 km southwest of Sarangani, Davao Occidental province, with a depth of 178 km, Phivolcs said.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and no aftershock alert was raised by the agency.

The regional office of the Southern Mindanao Office of Civil Defense reported no damage or injury.
