The children were reportedly catching fish and playing near the river, said Valenzuela City rescue officer Eduardson Oblima.

The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed search and rescue teams, according to PCG spokesman Captain Armand Balilo.

“Umaasa pa rin ako na sana makita sila, na sana nandiyan lang sila sa gilid, sana buhay pa sila na makita. Umaasa pa rin ako,” the mother of two of the missing children, Annaliza Tejadilla, said.
