Flooding along Padre Burgos Avenue in Manila is expected to be reduced as the flood control project covering the stretch from Luneta Pumping Station to Anda Street, Intramuros has been completed, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said.

Villar recently announced the completion of the flood-control works along the busy road in Manila that provide access to several thoroughfares in the city such as Taft Avenue, Rizal Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, and Quezon Boulevard.
It was also identified as one of the flood prone areas within the Metro, the secretary said.
“Our goal is to directly catch the flood waters in the area around Manila City Hall and Intramuros which will be pumped out by the newly constructed pumping station providing convenience to pedestrians and protection to properties,” he added.
“We always make sure to expedite these kinds of projects to ensure the safety of motorists and to improve roads which are vulnerable to flooding. DPWH is not only committed to building road networks but also to building disaster-risk reduction and resiliency infrastructures,” Villar noted.
The flood control project is under the P203.4-million flood control system that includes a two-kilometer flood control project around Manila City Hall and Intramuros, which was recently completed.
This is linked with the newly-improved Luneta Pumping Station.
The flood control project includes two submersible pumps with a capacity of 0.75 cubic meter per second for floodwaters to be easily discharged through a 600 mm. x 600 mm. pipe into Manila Bay. The total length of the drainage line is 2,268.5 lineal meters.
