When two become warriors of passion
Some gentlemen who found common ground in photography knew how to take their “cameraderie” to greater heights by making use of their other passions. In the case of Luis Harder who was featured in this section as “Photographer of the Week,” it’s through his involvement as current president of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines (DSAPI) where he consistently spearheads activities to further bond and uplift the spirits of families.

Photo of the Week: ‘Sugar Rush’
“I always like my photos to have a story and impact on the viewers. This photo shows the truth in drinking our beloved softdrinks. Art and narrative are my go-to combination in capturing photos. I created this photo because there is a theme in PWC (Photo World Cup) called ‘Sugar Rush.’ I want it to be straight to the point with a touch of honesty and creativity.” – Raphael Evan A. Grabador

Photo of the Week: ‘Meteor Garden’
“This photo was taken last January 9 at 8:32 p.m. at Tila Pilon Hills, Doña Remedios Trinidad in Bulacan. Yes, it may look scripted that I am pointing at the meteor but this is all unplanned. We’re about to start our astrophotography shoot at this very spot because the skies were clear and stars were visible. As I was doing my pose (pointing my fingers to the Orion Nebula), without any warning or signs, the meteor or fireball suddenly appeared right in front of us and especially on the portion of the sky that I was pointing between my 30 seconds exposure. I used a Canon 6D Mark II with a Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX II 11-16mm f/2.8. The camera settings: ISO 2500; f/2.8; 30″ secs. shutter speed.” – Mark Oliver Mercader

PhotoWorld Asia in the time of COVID-19
COVID-19 and large gatherings do not go together, we know that. Trade shows and conferences are large gatherings and at present there is a pandemic. They’re not a good mix. But we pushed through with our annual event just the same. Were we crazy?

Photo of the Week: ‘Change’
“Kegon Falls is listed as one of Japan’s three most beautiful waterfalls. During the autumn, the warm and vibrant tone of the leaves will add a splash of color to the scenery in front of you and create a beautiful view.” – Esher Diaz

Photo of the Week
“This image was an unintentional concept shot during our photowalk in one of the heritage sites of Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. We saw these old jars of Arabic coffee they called “Qahwa,” a version of the brewed coffee of Coffea arabica beans. Most Arab countries throughout the Middle East have developed distinct methods for brewing and preparing coffee. Cardamom is an often added spice, but it can alternatively be served plain or with sugar. It was displayed in one of their tents and we asked our friend to strike a pose while he was wearing a Kandura (an Emirati Men’s Attire). Luckily I got a good source of natural light coming from the sun in the small opening of the tent and putting ‘sun flares’ to make a more dramatic scene. We had a great time doing this fun shoot.” – Tawpee Comeso
