“We are inviting all Davaoenos and devotees of the Black Nazarene in Mindanao to join the feast of the Poong Jesus Nazareno to help deepen and strengthen our faith and to provide us with inspiration in facing life’s challenges,” the group said.

The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church) gifted the Archdiocese of Davao with a replica image of the revered icon in 2015 to help spread devotion to the Black Nazarene in different parts of the country.

The image was brought to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia GKK Chapel in Davao City which is under the San Alfonso Maria de Liguori Parish.

The Davao Nazareno said fiesta activities will begin on Dec. 31 with the “Pabihis,” (vesting of the image), the traditional changing of the vestments of the Black Nazarene at 3 p.m.

The first Misa Nobenaryo (Novena Mass) will be held at 6 p.m. The novena masses will be held at the Our Lady of Peñafrancia GKK Chapel from Dec. 31 to Jan. 5 afterwards the masses will be celebrated at the San Alfonso Maria de Liguori Parish from Jan. 6 to 8.

On Jan. 9, the traslacion procession will be at 8 a.m. from the parish back to the Our Lady of Peñafrancia GKK Chapel.

Fiesta masses will be held at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Quiapo Church in Manila conducted a walk through activity on Dec. 16 to check the route of the Black Nazarene traslacion procession on Jan. 9.

Organizers are working on and hoping for a safe, orderly and peaceful procession next year.
