A total of 12 motorcycle riders were injured after slipping on a pile of rubble that fell from a dump truck on the northbound lane of the Kamuning flyover in Quezon City on Tuesday, March 11.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the dump truck was passing through the flyover at around 1:30 a.m. going to Pampanga when the sand and mud debris fell off.
MMDA rescue personnel responded to the riders who sustained injuries on their legs and arms.
“Pag-akyat namin ng flyover, sakto po, ayan nabulaga na po kami sa tambak po na putik. Kaya nu'ng gumewang po kami hanggang sa sumadsad kami sa kalsada, ang layo po ng sinadsaran namin eh (When we got onto the flyover, we were completely blinded by the pile of mud. So we swerved until we ended up on the road),” motorcycle taxi rider said.
The truck driver said the tailgate was open which caused the incident.
“Pagkatabi namin ng truck, chineck up namin, sir. Bukas pala 'yung tailgate ng truck. Tapos maya-maya, may mga pumuntang enforcer (When we pulled over we discovered that the truck's tailgate was open. then after awhile, some enforcers came over),” he said.
"Pasensya na po, sir, sa mga nasugatan po. Hindi ko naman kagustuhan 'yung nangyari, sir (I'm sorry, sir, to those who were injured. I didn't want what happened, sir),”he added.
The driver is under the custody of Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 3 while the investigation is ongoing.
The MMDA temporarily closed the northbound lane of the flyover to clean the area at around 3:00 a.m. which caused heavy traffic.
The flyover was opened to motorists around 7:00 a.m.
