Muntinlupa marked its 30th cityhood anniversary on March 1 with groundbreaking ceremonies, medical and dental mission, and a Mass.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon, together with Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Mental Health & Palliative Care Center on Montillano Street and the Mega Health Center on Ilaya Street, both located in Barangay Alabang.

March 1 is a special non-working day in Muntinlupa based on Republic Act 9191, approved on Feb. 21, 2003, which declared “the First Day of March of every year as a Special Non-Working Day in the City of Muntinlupa to be known as the Muntinlupa City Charter Day."

It was on March 1, 1995 when then President Fidel V. Ramos signed Republic Act 7926 converting Muntinlupa from a municipality to a city. The city charter was ratified in a plebiscite in May 1995.

Fr. Rustico Cruz led the Mass held at the Muntinlupa City hall quadrangle attended by Biazon, Fresnedi and other city officials and employees.

The Oplan Bigay Lunas 2025 was held at the Tunasan National High School and sponsored by the Mercury Drug Foundation. The medical and dental mission provided free medicine, and medical services including health and dental checkup, cervical cancer screening and chest X-ray.

During the groundbreaking for the Mental Health & Palliative Care Center, Biazon said, “We are prioritizing a safe space for those with mental health conditions. Sa palliative care naman, isa rin ito sa mga nakita nating pangangailangan lalo na para sa ating senior citizens who need terminal care.”

“Marami sa kabataan apektado ang pag-aaral dahil sa mental health situation nila. Dapat kumilos tayo na tutukan ang edukasyon, at bahagi ang mental well-being sa pagtutok na iyon (The education of many young people is affected by their mental health situation. We must take action to focus on education, and mental well-being is part of that focus),” the mayor said.
