Benitez said the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority finished the bidding process last December. “They’ve been given a notice to proceed and mobilizing the project now,” he said.

Benitez said no local funds were used in these projects with a total cost of P300 million as the city government tapped TIEZA for their implementation.

He said that P80 million was allocated for the plaza rehabilitation, including the improvement of the fountain and other facilities, and P220 million was allocated for the renovation of the BCGC grounds.

Benitez said that these projects are targeted to be completed in three to four months. “Hopefully, we can regain the stature of the public plaza,” he added.

The public plaza will have dancing lights like those in countries like Japan and Singapore similar to the concept of teamLab (international art collective) that uses lights and music to highlight the serenity and comfort of people visiting the place.

The mayor said that they will regulate vendors at the public plaza once the project is completed. “We will cross the bridge when we get there,” he added.
