The Parañaque City Council approved an ordinance mandating the Clean-As-You-Go (CLAYGO) practice in all food-serving establishments in the city and provides penalties for violations.

Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez said the ordinance aims to promote cleanliness and minimize health risks to hygiene, health and safety, and to raise awareness and habit on proper waste segregation.

The mayor pointed out that the CLAYGO habit will promote a culture of cleanliness, discipline, and environmental responsibility among city residents.

He said the implementation of CLAYGO will also reduce the workload for restaurant staff and encourage discipline among individuals, especially children, who learn valuable life skills like cleaning up after themselves.

The mayor said Ordinance No. 2025-06 covers all restaurants, canteens, coffee shops, cafeteria, bakeries, food stalls, eateries, fast food chains, and all similar establishments that cater to diners or customers.

Olivarez also expressed his commitment to support the local law.

The mayor said children, persons with disabilities, including the elderly, are also subject to the provisions under Section 6 of the ordinance. They are expected to clean up if they can, or their companions are encouraged to assist them.

Olivarez said the ordinance tasked the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) under Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya and the City Health Office to conduct periodic inspections of all covered establishments in order to ensure compliance with the pertinent provisions.

The BPLO was also directed to make a layout for the stickers of CLAYGO that can be downloaded and disseminated online or by email for the use of the food establishments.

Any offender who does not comply with the ordinance shall be penalized with a fine of P500 for every violation of the Clean-As-You-Go practice.

For owners and managers of establishments who fail to practice the policy, they shall be reprimanded for the first offense; will be imposed a fine of P2,000 and notice of violation for the second offense; and a revocation of their permit and a fine of P5,000 for the third offense.
