OpenAI has revealed they intend to build a new social media platform.
According to the report, the platform will be similar to X (once known as Twitter).
It will also focus on OpenAI’s image generation tool.
All other details about the platform are quiet. But what we know is that it’s in its earlier stages, and that OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has been reported looking for outside feedback for the project.
The news shouldn’t be too surprising. ChatGPT is one of the most downloaded apps in recent history and OpenAI would want to keep its portfolio of products to keep on growing. Where else would their AI tools be more useful than having them integrated in social networks? An X-like social network would probably be the first, and would probably continue to expand gradually into short-form videos. If so, the question would then be, would the content shared among communities be based on AI generated images?
This could certainly be another way for OpenAI to continue gathering data to keep training their AI models as users post content.
It is quite interesting to see what kind of spin OpenAI would take for a social network.
