Las Piñas gov't observes 128th anniversary of the Battle of Zapote Bridge

The Las Piñas Tourism and Cultural Office (LPTCO) celebrated the 128th anniversary of the first battle at the Zapote Bridge, one of the historical landmarks preserved by the city government on Monday, Feb. 18.

LPTCO head Paul Ahljay San Miguel led the offering of wreath in commemorating the battle led by Gen. Edliberto Evangelista who was named as the “Hero of the Battle of Zapote Bridge.".

San Miguel said Evangelista was asked by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo to lead the battle against the Spaniards that happened on Feb. 17, 1897.

The Battle of Zapote Bridge is remembered every June 13 to honor the 4,000 to 5,000 Filipino soldiers who fought for Philippine Independence led by two generals, Artemio Ricarte and Mariano Noriel.
