Two-time UAAP champion JD Cagulangan has arrived in South Korea to begin his journey with the Suwon KT Sonicboom in the ongoing KBL season.
In an Instagram story by Suwon Thursday, Jan. 9, Cagulangan was all smiles in the airport which marked the beginning of a new chapter in his promising career.
“Welcome [to KT Sonicboom], JD” the team said.
The 24-year-old Cagulangan will try to make an impact in his pro debut for the Sonicboom who are boasting a 15-11 win-loss record at third place – tied with the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus where his compatriot and fellow UAAP star SJ Belangel currently plays.
Before setting his foot on Korean soil, Cagulangan helped the UP Fighting Maroons win the Season 87 finals against the La Salle Green Archers to clinch their second title in four years.
He was named the Finals MVP as he averaged 13.66 points, 4.33 rebounds and 4.66 assists in their best-of-three series.
It is yet to be confirmed if Cagulangan will be playing against the Seoul Samsung Thunders (9-17) this Saturday, Jan. 11.
Meanwhile, La Salle’s Kevin Quiambao shared in his Instagram story that he has already secured his Korean visa which is a big step toward his goal of suiting up for the Goyong Sono Skygunners.
Quiambao, 23, opted to forgo his two remaining years with the Taft-based squad to turn pro abroad.
