The Southern Police District (SPD) destroyed a total of 32,692 assorted firecrackers worth P424,178, which were confiscated during a series of operations from December 16, 2024 to January 6, 2025.

The SPD reported that 871 pieces of "boga", a makeshift cannon typically made of PVC pipes used to produce loud noises, along with the confiscated firecrackers like kwitis, lucis, whistle bombs, fountains, Judas belt, 5 star, super lolo, pla-pla, piccolo and others, were presented and destroyed on January 7.

The SPD reported 17 casualties of firecracker-related incidents during the celebration of New Year.

It also logged three victims of stray bullet and arrest of four individuals for illegal possession, use and sale of firecrackers.

SPD chief Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena said the number of firecracker-related incidents this year is lower compared to previous years.

“I am pleased to report that, compared to past years, we saw a significant decrease in both the number of firecracker-related incidents and the volume of illegal fireworks seized. This success is a result of the hard work and vigilance of our personnel, as well as the cooperation of the community," Abrugena said.
