Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo has authorized the suspension of work at the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday, Jan. 9, during the annual celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
It is expected that Presiding Justice Fernanda Lampas Peralta will also order the suspension of work at the Court of Appeals’ main office in Manila.
Earlier, President Marcos had declared Jan. 9 a special non-working day in Manila for one of the most significant religious celebrations in the Philippines.
Work in trial courts in Manila are also automatically suspended on Jan. 9.
In a memorandum, Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Administrative Officer Maria Carina A. Matammu Cunanan said that while work is suspended at the SC, “skeletal workforces in the Docket-Receiving Section of the Judicial Records Office and Cash Collection and Disbursement Division, Financial Management and Budget Office, shall be maintained.”
