The victims were a 12-year-old male, his sister, a 10-year-old female, and their cousin, a 12-year-old female, all residents of San Diego, District 9, Burauen.

The victims were caught by strong and continuous waves and drowned on a beach.

Registered nurses Ara Petilla and Angelica Bea Torreno, assisted by on-duty personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard in Barangay Rizal, PO2 Mark Anthony Banguis, PO3 Arnel Custodio, and ASN Paul Lourence Cagara, recovered and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victims who were not breathing when they were saved.

The children were revived and recovering in the hospital.

Ara recently passed the November 2024 licensure exam for nurses.  Nurse Angelica, a surfer, rescued the children because she felt the need to be there and help.
