Lesser number of cases filed before Sandiganbayan in 2024


The number of cases filed by prosecutors before the Sandiganbayan dwindled in 2024 with only 138 cases compared to 263 in 2023, 240 in 2022, and 163 in 2021.

Based on the summary of the anti-graft court's "Statistics on Cases Filed, Pending and Disposed of as of Dec. 31, 2024," there were 625 cases revived by the prosecutors in 2024. 

The summary also showed that in 2024 the court handled a total caseload of 2,253 cases of which 1,024 cases were resolved and 1,229 cases remained pending.

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when government offices were forced to shut down, state prosecutors managed to file only 117 cases.

Comparing the data from previous years, the Office of the Ombudsman Ombudsman managed to file 1,311 cases in 2016; 2,513 cases in 2017; and 739 cases in 2018. In 2019, only 198 cases were filed before the Sandiganbayan.

Out of the seven divisions of the Sandiganbayan, the Third Division has the most number of pending cases as of Dec. 31, 2024 with 399 cases, followed by the Second Division with 290 cases; Fifth Division with 202; Sixth Division with 117; Seventh Division with 112; Fourth Division with 64; and First Division with 44 cases. 

A Special Division of the anti-graft court has been created with one pending case.
