The northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will continue to dominate weather conditions in Northern and Central Luzon on Friday, Jan. 30, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

“Asahan natin ang medyo malakas na northeast monsoon na siyang nagdadala din ng minsan malalakas na ulan (We can expect the moderately strong northeast monsoon, which also brings occasional heavy rains),” PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said in a weather forecast.
In its forecast, PAGASA said that the northeast monsoon will affect Northern and Central Luzon.
Due to the "amihan," cloudy skies and rain are expected in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.
The northeast monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila, Rizal, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said the easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in the rest of the country.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.
Weekend weather
Estareja said the easterlies, or the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will prevail in Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“Patuloy itong lumalakas, ibig sabihin, over the weekend, magiging mainit at maalinsangan sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa (It continues to strengthen, which means that over the weekend, it will be hot and humid in most parts of our country),” he explained.
Meanwhile, Estareja noted that PAGASA has not observed any typhoon or low-pressure area (LPA). “Kaya wala po tayong inaasahan na weather disturbance sa mga unang araw ng Pebrero (So we do not expect any weather disturbances in the early days of February),” he added.
