The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, Jan. 3, confirmed that the number of deaths resulting from road crashes has risen to seven, while the total number of road traffic incidents has surpassed 600.
Based on its latest data, the DOH announced that it recorded 606 road traffic incidents between Dec. 22, 2024, and Jan. 3, 2025.
The DOH said it has been monitoring road traffic incidents during the holiday season through eight pilot areas.
The DOH noted that the 606 total cases of road traffic incidents represent a 31 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Out of the seven deaths reported, the DOH said four were caused by motorcycle accidents.
The DOH reported that 115 incidents were attributed to alcohol consumption, 527 involved individuals not using safety accessories, and 433 were motorcycle-related accidents.
After the holiday season, the DOH said the roads would gradually return to regular traffic patterns.
Given this, the DOH reminded the public to remain disciplined and considerate on the road, as “road safety is a shared responsibility.”
The DOH urged motorists to wear safety gear such as helmets and seatbelts, avoid overspeeding, follow traffic signs, get enough rest before driving, and refrain from drinking and driving.
