Mimaropa crime incidents down by 23.7%

Crime incidents in Mimaropa declined by 23.7 percent since Jan. 1 this year, a ranking police official said as the National Police Commission (Napolcom) commended the regional police force for efficient anti-crime strategies.

From 383 from Jan. 1 to 26 last year, the crime incidents reported in Mimaropa (Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) reduced to 292 for the same period.

Police Brig. Gen. Roger L. Quesada, director of the Mimaropa regional police, attributed the decrease to what he described as impactful programs and strategies that strengthened crime prevention, law enforcement, and community engagement across the region.

Among the key accomplishments is the reduction in crimes against women and children—rape cases, in particular, saw a 64.52 percent decrease in early 2025, with reported cases dropping from 31 in 2024 to just 11 during the same period this year.

On an annual basis, rape cases declined significantly, from 520 in 2023 to 391 in 2024—a 24.81 percent reduction.

“These milestones could be attributed to the collective efforts of the entire police force, emphasizing that strategic planning, enhanced police visibility, and strong community partnerships were central to their success,” said Quesada.

For his part, Napolcom commissioner retired police general Josephus Angan commended the achievements of the regional police in significantly reducing crime incidents

"I commend the men and women of PRO MIMAROPA for your dedicated and professional service to the people of this region. Continue fulfilling your duties with utmost commitment and discipline to maintain the good image of the Philippine National Police,” Angan said.
