Dr. Jose Rizal's legacy lives on

Filipino hero shines in Civilization VII

A lot of us knew Firaxis Games was cooking something up for Civilization VII.  What we did not expect was Dr. Jose Rizal showing up in one of the game’s newest trailer.

From the game’s own website, they describe Dr. Jose Rizal as: 

“Long regarded as a hero of the Philippines, José Rizal was a passionate defender of the dignity and autonomy of Filipinos. He first gained his reputation as a political activist in Europe, criticizing the Spanish rule of his homeland, and though he advocated for peaceful reform and equal rights, Rizal was eventually tried and executed by the Spanish. Yet his revolutionary spirit could not be contained, and has inspired Filipinos ever since.”

Civilization VII, or Civ7, is a strategy game that features building society from the ground up. Each game spans hundreds of years and prominent historical figures make appearances. In this case, Dr Jose Rizal, himself is a character. 

Dr. Rizal’s unique ability, “Pambansang Bayani” increases Culture and Gold over Narrative Events.

His in-game Agenda is called Kapwa and is based around building Relationship. 

Civilization VII will launch on February 11, 2025.
