Coconut vendor hacks live-in partner, 2 kids dead in Cebu

CEBU CITY – A 33-year-old coconut vendor believed to be mentally unstable hacked and slit the necks of his live-in partner and their two children in the City of Naga, Cebu on Monday morning, Jan. 27.

Police identified the suspect as Carlo Camporedondo.

The fatalities were identified as Junelyn Jimenez, 32; John Carlo Camporedondo, 11, and LJ Camporedondo, 2.

The victims were found inside their house with hack wounds and their necks slashed.

The incident happened in Purok Kamanggahan, Barangay Lutac, around 10:30 a.m.

Jessa Rico, younger sister of Junelyn, said a bolo-wielding Carlo, after killing his live-in partner and their two kids, went out of their house and also tried to attack his mother. His mother was able to run and hide in a neighbor’s house.

The suspect fled and was arrested in a follow-up operation in a mountainous area in the barangay.

The couple’s other child aged 11 was in school when the crime happened. John Carlo did not go to school on that day due to toothache.

Jessa said Carlo is a drug user and underwent rehab in the past. The vice affected the suspect’s mental condition and there were several instances that he would act up.

The suspect is taking maintenance medicines for his mental issues. Though he was taking medicines, Carlo allegedly continued to use illegal drugs, Jessa said.

Carlo was supposed to sell coconut fruits that day but decided to go home as there was no available cart for his merchandise.

The victims’ relatives suspect that Carlo was not in the right frame of mind when he attacked Junelyn and their two children.

Prior to the crime, the couple had been arguing. The couple would usually fight when the suspect becomes mentally unstable. It was also during these times when the suspect accuses his partner of having affair with other men.

Some neighbors disclosed that it was only last week when the suspect also attempted to hack his partner.
