A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ship accidentally collided with a motor tugboat during the fluvial parade procession for the 460th “Fiesta Señor” celebration in Cebu City over the weekend.

A report from the PCG said that BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) was hit by M/T Sugbu 3 during the sea procession held last Saturday, Jan. 18, in the vicinity waters of Pier 2, Cebu City.

The BRP Cape San Agustin was supporting the fluvial parade procession.

“During the event, the M/T Sugbu 3 unexpectedly sped up along the port side of BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) and crossed its port bow,” the PCG confirmed Monday, Jan. 20.

Lt. Commander Ramon Padillo, acting commanding officer of BRP Cape San Agustin, quickly directed his throttle man to stop all the engines of the ship to minimize the impact of the collision.

“The crew acted swiftly to deploy a fender that minimized the impact and prevented significant damage to the said Coast Guard vessel. No passenger was harmed during the incident,” the PCG noted.

BRP Cape San Agustin arrived at Pier 1 in Cebu City after the fluvial parade and no damage was found on her port bow when she was inspected, the PCG assessed.

More than 300 registered vessels participated in the Fiesta Señor, which celebrates the feast of the Holy Child Jesus or Señor Santo Niño de Cebu in Cebu City.
