They say that fame comes with consequences. One of those is being exposed to the scrutiny of the public eye. Imagine how much more pressure there is for the new generation of personalities who started in the realm of the digital world—where they are constantly online, posting pictures and videos for their content.

This is exactly the dance sensation and social media personality Niana Guerrero is dealing with every day. She started as a YouTuber at a young age and now has more than 15.8 million subscribers on her channel. On TikTok, she has a massive 44.2 million followers on TikTok with over one billion likes on her videos. But behind the camera, Niana, too, is a normal human being dealing with different life challenges, including skin concerns.

In a conversation with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, the 18-year-old dancer and singer openly admitted that just like most teenagers, she too deals with acne and pimple problems and shared the things she’s practicing to deal with it. Niana also shared her skincare routine, the product that she found that helps her to deal with pimples, and the message she wants to convey to young people when it comes to finding self-esteem.

Can you tell us a bit about your skincare routine?
As much as possible, I keep my skincare routine simple because I’ve learned that less is often more when it comes to taking care of my skin. My routine consists of a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen during the daytime. Keeping it simple has really worked well for me.

As a public figure, how important is skincare for you?
Skincare is very important to me. I want to set a good example by showing the importance of taking care of your skin and embracing self-care. Healthy skin is part of self-confidence, and I want to inspire others to feel good about themselves.

Do you experience breakouts? If so, what are some of the common triggers for you?
I don’t break out often, but when I do, the common triggers for me are stress and lack of sleep—things that can be difficult to avoid with the nature of my work. When I’m constantly on the go, it can be challenging to maintain a perfect balance, but I’ve learned to be kinder to myself and my skin during these times.

What are some of the ways you've tried to deal with pimples?
I’ve tried so many ways to manage my pimples—everything from calming masks to reduce inflammation to spot treatments to target my blemishes. It’s been a process of trial and error, but I’ve found that consistency and listening to what my skin needs work best. That’s when I decided to partner with Posh Skin [a pimple patch brand] because the brand really resonates with mine—they empower people to embrace what is often seen as an insecurity. The pimple patch designs are cute and fun. Most brands focus on hiding imperfections, but Posh Skin stands out by celebrating them.

How do you incorporate pimple patches into your skincare routine?
Whenever I have an active pimple, I simply apply a patch and leave it on for a few hours, especially when I’m running errands. The patches protect my skin from pollution and bacteria while blending into my day. I also incorporate them into my nighttime routine—I’ll wear a patch overnight, and when I wake up, I notice my pimples look calmer and less inflamed. And because the patch designs are very unique, I’ve been getting a lot of compliments.

How do you maintain a positive body image and self-esteem despite occasional skin imperfections?
I remind myself that I’m human, and changes in our bodies are completely normal. It’s important to focus on what makes you unique and to celebrate yourself beyond your physical appearance. Surrounding myself with positivity and practicing self-love has helped me build a healthy mindset, even when my skin isn’t perfect.

What advice would you give to young people who are struggling with acne and feeling self-conscious about it?
Embrace it. Acne is completely normal—it happens to everyone, even to the people you look up to. Don’t let it define your self-worth. Taking care of your skin is important, but so is loving yourself through every stage of your journey.
