The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) was recognized as one of the most sought-after government agencies by Filipino jobseekers in 2024.
PPA General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said the Employee Job Happiness Index 2024 survey conducted by Jobstreet underscores the agency’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and growth-oriented workplace that attracts top talent across the country.
The survey highlights that Filipino jobseekers prioritize work schedule flexibility, company reputation, and values when selecting potential employers.
"As we continue to improve our port facilities, we also invest in our people inside and outside of port areas. Without the employees, there will be no great outputs. We are proud to say that the PPA is among the recognized government agencies when it comes to best human resources practices," said Santiago.
He said the PPA’s inclusion in the list of top government agencies—alongside esteemed institutions such as the Asian Development Bank, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the Department of Education—is a testament to its strong reputation and alignment with these priorities.
Santiago said PPA’s Human Resources Management Department (HRMD) drives employee development through extensive training and development programs.
Since 2016, he said PPA has provided numerous local and international scholarships to enhance employees’ skills and knowledge, ensuring their growth aligns with the organization’s goals.
In 2023 alone, PPA provided 278 foreign and 136 local scholarships to its employees. These initiatives are complemented by in-house training programs and interventions that build core competencies and prepare employees for professional examinations through the Career Enrichment Program (CEP).
PPA’s transition to hybrid learning platforms post-pandemic demonstrates its adaptability and dedication to continuous improvement, said Santiago, adding that the agency’s approach to workforce management has been instrumental in its success.
The agency’s adherence to the Civil Service Commission’s PRIME-HRM (Program to Institutionalize Meritocracy and Excellence in Human Resource Management) program ensures that its recruitment, selection, and performance management systems are efficient and merit-based.
This earned PPA the Civil Service Commission’s PRIME-HRM Bronze Award in 2018, a recognition of its excellence in human resource practices.
